This exceptional Cassone is of museum quality with the phenomenal detailing and attention to detail throughout. The Cassone is raised by four paw feet in each corner. The straight aprons are decorated with gadroon patterns and foliated carving on the two front corners. The front side of the Cassone contains three rectangular panels. The central panel has beautifully carved designs including Poseidon being flanked by an array of dragons, dolphins, snails, turtles, and sea serpents. The central panel is flanked on either side by smaller scale panels with cravings of a bust surrounded by foliate scrolls and rosettes. Both sides have receded panels of finely carved cherubs atop rearing dragons holding a trident while amongst a rough ocean. — Read Less
